Extension Aftercare

Proper care ensures your extensions look beautiful and last as long as possible. Follow these guidelines to protect your investment.

Washing & Drying

Keep your extensions clean and healthy with the right techniques.

Wait Before Washing

Wait at least 48 hours after installation before your first wash. This allows your extensions to fully settle and ensures maximum longevity.

Use Sulfate-Free Products

Always use sulfate-free, paraben-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates strip moisture and can shorten the life of your extensions. We recommend professional-grade extension care products.

Gentle Drying

Pat hair dry with a microfiber towel — never rub. When blow-drying, use a low to medium heat setting and always apply a heat protectant spray first.

Brush with Care

Use a loop brush or wet brush designed for extensions. Start from the ends and work your way up, holding the weft area to avoid pulling. Brush gently 2-3 times daily.

Maintenance & Care

Daily habits that keep your extensions looking salon-fresh.

Regular Move-Up Appointments

Schedule move-up appointments every 6-8 weeks to keep your extensions looking fresh and prevent matting near the rows.

Protect While Sleeping

Braid your hair in a loose braid or low ponytail before bed. Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and tangling.

Avoid Excess Oil at Roots

Keep oils, serums, and heavy conditioners away from the weft and row area. Apply products mid-shaft to ends only to keep your extensions secure.

No Updos for 72 Hours

Avoid wearing your hair up in ponytails, buns, or clips for the first 72 hours after installation. This allows your extensions to settle properly and prevents stress on the rows.

Swimming & Exercise

Before swimming, wet your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner. After pool or ocean exposure, rinse immediately. For workouts, tie hair in a loose braid to prevent tangling from sweat.

Recommended Products

The right products make all the difference in extension longevity.

Shampoo & Conditioner

Look for sulfate-free, extension-safe formulas. Brands like Pureology, Olaplex, and Moroccanoil are excellent choices.

Heat Protectant

Always apply before using any hot tools. A lightweight spray protectant rated for 400°F+ is ideal for extensions.

Leave-In Conditioner

A lightweight leave-in helps keep extensions hydrated and tangle-free. Apply from mid-shaft to ends after washing.

Hair Oil / Serum

Use a lightweight argan or jojoba oil on the ends to add shine and reduce frizz. Avoid applying near the weft or row area.

Dry Shampoo

Extend time between washes with a gentle dry shampoo. This helps preserve your extensions and keeps hair looking fresh.

Detangling Brush

Invest in a loop brush or wet brush specifically designed for extensions. Regular brushes can snag and damage the wefts.

Maintenance Timeline

Stay on schedule for the best results.

1

First 72 Hours

Avoid washing, excessive touching, or wearing your hair up. Let your extensions settle into place.

2

Weekly

Wash 2-3 times per week with sulfate-free products. Deep condition once a week from mid-shaft to ends.

3

Every 2 Weeks

Check for any tangling near the rows. Gently separate any sections that may be growing together.

4

Every 6-8 Weeks

Schedule a move-up appointment at the salon. This is essential for maintaining a natural look and preventing damage.

5

Every 3-4 Months

Full maintenance appointment — extensions are removed, hair is deep conditioned, and extensions are reinstalled fresh.
